Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 Fashion Film Features 10 Shameless Product Placements
Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 collection was captured on film in video lookbook of sorts by Kalvin Lazarte of Play Nice. Three models having fun, countless Marc Jacobs bags, shoes and clothes, a beautiful hotel and Seventies vibe, what more could you need, right? Well, apparently a lot of product placements.
Of course since the filming takes place at the James Hotel in New York, a clear shot of the hotel logo is acceptable and even somewhat expected. However, nine additional and quite obvious product placements bring us to a total of ten product placements in a three minutes time span. This Marc Jacobs lookbook pretty much paid for itself in the first few seconds with a nice, clear shot of an ...

Haider Ackermann Replacing Galliano At Dior Possibility Gains A Strong Momentum
The rumor mill as to who will replace John Galliano as Dior's head creative director hasn't stopped spinning since the designer's tragic fall from grace a week ago. At times it feels as though people are simply throwing their favorite designers' names out there. We still have a good couple of weeks of speculating to go, since Dior is in no rush to make a decision. According to Fashionologie, Dior won't make statements on the matter for quite some time. "They’re receiving offers," a source close to LVMH says. French employment laws are also in LVMH's way. Until the completion of Galliano's firing process which might take a few weeks, the luxury conglomerate cannot officially begin replacing him.
While many ...
2011 SAG Awards: Our Best Dressed Top Ten
The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were rather low-key red-carpet-looks wise. I suppose with the Oscars coming up you do have to keep your best looks for last. Still, some managed to shine. When you've got the confidence and the perfectly fitting, flattering dress - it doesn't matter that it's not the most recent Haute Couture.
Let's begin the countdown, shall we.
Spring 2011 Campaigns Roundup: Versace, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel And 13 More
Take a look at the established brands' Spring 2011 campaigns from the likes of Prada, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs, Dior, Fendi, Dolce & Gabanna, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Miu Miu, Salvatore Ferragamo, Givenchy and Valentino.
Some were better than others. My personal favorites are Givenchy and Bottega Veneta. The two are worlds apart as far as styling goes, but very intriguing and eye-catching without being banal or tacky. The absolute worst has to be Marc Jacobs.
While we are waiting to see ad campaigns of the more contemporary brands, tell me who are your best and worst?
Marc Jacobs Honored At 2010 FIAF Trophée des Arts
Marc Jacobs' work for Louis Vuitton did not go unnoticed by the French and so last Thursday he was honored with the Trophée des Arts award for his contribution to French fashion by French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF). The 2010 FIAF Trophée des Arts award was presented to him by Anna Wintour.
Jacobs said of the win, "I’m lucky to have this great job at Louis Vuitton. I can’t put [what I love about Paris] into one thing. It’s an ephemeral feeling, I feel happy and comfortable there. It’s the physical city, the lifestyle, the wine, the art."
Since 1992, each year the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) chooses an American honoree who contributes to the French culture thus bringing the French ...
New Online Sunglasses Store: Solstice Sunglasses
There's a new competitor for Sunglass Hut on the cyber block - Solstice Sunglasses. And they even offer free shipping and returns.
Solstice Sunglasses is a sunglasses retailer for Safilo Group which is a major sunglasses licensee (Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, you name it). So a lot of the sunglasses they are offering are of course Safilo's brands, but they also include classics like Ray-Bans. Can you even have a sunglasses store today without offering Ray-Bans?
The new sunglasses online store offers pretty much the same shopping experience as Sunglass Hut - filtering sunglasses by brand, gender, shape, price and prescription, but carries brands that I'd say are a bit on the pricey side.
The website's look-and-feel, by the ...
10th Anniversary: Marc By Marc Jacobs Through The Years
In two months, Marc Jacobs' diffusion collection Marc By Marc Jacobs is going to close a decade of crazy sales figures and Bleecker Street's main tourist attraction. Interestingly enough, Marc By Marc Jacobs wasn't even Marc Jacobs' idea. The diffusion line is the brainchild of Jacobs' business partner Robert Duffy. He had to convince not only LVMH but also Marc Jacobs himself that a lot of money can be made by selling a dumbed down version of Marc Jacobs to young people. To this day, a separate design team works on creating Marc By Marc Jacobs with the man himself only approving it at it's final stage.
It is interesting to see Marc By Marc Jacobs evolving over the past ten ...
