D&G Fall 2011 Collection - Line To End
D&G Fall 2011 Runway Show

It’s very possible that the next Spring 2012 D&G collection and runway show could be the last we’ll see of the younger Dolce & Gabbana sister line. Although Dolce & Gabbana won’t comment on the matter, retailers around the world who stock D&G, while retaining anonymity, say they have it on good confidence that the line is about to be canceled.

Two years ago Dolce & Gabbana gave D&G a makeover – making it more upscale and moving the price point for the line upwards. Since then they feel that the signature line and the younger and more commercial line are stepping on each other’s toes. Under one name, one signature label they intend to incorporate some of the D&G commerciality and expand merchandising  with custom rubber patches– keychains to T-shirts – as part of the signature Dolce & Gabbana brand.

Retailers from places like Russia, Asia and Middle East who spoke to WWD said that D&G is doing much better in their markets and scrapping it could be a mistake. Another source suggested that the designers might create younger capsule collections to cater to stores that once stocked only D&G.

While all the sources that spoke to WWD remained anonymous, they painted a rather clear picture about the future of D&G. What will Dolce & Gabbana say of the matter remains to be seen.
