For Gucci Fall 2011 collection, Frida Giannini chose not to leave the 70’s – trend that began already in Spring 2011. Thus, while not revolutionary, the looks were full of glamour and sensuality, yet completely wearable. Sure some of the day dresses sported a risqué front slit and the evening dresses were as sheer as they can get, paired with matching panties; but, let’s not forget that we live in a era where pop starlets find it completely legitimate leaving the house without any bottoms.
For day, Giannini envisioned the Gucci girl in a lot of fur – be it fur stoles paired with dresses, fur trim on jackets, or jackets simply made of fur. We can’t of course ignore that Prada began the colorful fur stoles trend in it’s Spring 2011 collection. In true 70’s spirit, fitted jackets, in velvet or tweed, were cinched at the waist by a thin belt, paired with under-the-knee skirts or wide-leg pants. High boots were met at the knee by a skirt or a cropped wide-leg pant. Feathered fedoras sealed in the talked above period reference.
It should be mentioned that evening looks did not include fur at all. Sheer draped gowns were matched with little stoles or jackets made of dyed silk petals – thus creating the voluminous effect of the fur.
