Christian Lacroix may not be able to produce collections under his own name – to which he doesn’t have the rights since the closing of his namesake label, but that certainly doesn’t stop him from doing what he loves. Under a new name – Monsieur Lacroix – Lacroix struck a partnership with the Spanish clothing brand Desigual.
The first Desigual By Monsieur Lacroix Fall 2011 collection was sent down the Barcelona Fashion Week runway consisting of 30 pieces. “Haute couture mixed with the urban and casual Desigual prêt-à-porter,” so Desigual promises us. The next collection, for Spring 2012, is supposed to be even bigger and better.
Lacroix said of the partnership, “I was awestruck by the first girl dressed by Desigual that I saw in Paris. As I watched her, I could recognize in her a member of my own tribe. It was an explosion of colors and patchwork under the elegant, discreet and always monotonous French sky. It was fantastic, truly love at first sight, a breath of fresh air, all multicolored, scorching, revitalizing, radiating Mediterranean colors and flavors and creeping into this global and colorless magma inhabited by zombies and clones.”
Desigual has a store in Soho, it remains to be seen if Desigual By Monsieur Lacroix collections will be available there.
