Iris Van Herpen Spring 2011 Crystallization

“I am fascinated by the fact that there are secret lines hidden in totally transparent and liquid material. Life appears at the moment of freezing, when crystals form. Only then becomes the underlying symmetry and structure visible,” so Iris Van Herpen described the inspiration for her recent Spring 2011 collection appropriately dubbed ‘Crystallization’.

Avant-garde and definitely highly conceptual, Iris Van Herpen’s Spring 2011 collection is also incredibly intricate. All of the pieces were crafted by hand out of hundreds of thin strips of different types leathers all the while keeping perfect symmetry and structure. You would expect no less from a collection inspired by crystals.

Iris Van Herpen’s incredible designs don’t go unnoticed. She recently won the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award which included a hefty cheque of 25,000 Euro, the Dutch Incubator Award and the Accessory Award.
