Of A Kind is a new kind of online store. A Tumblr online store. Of A Kind started as a blog about, well, cool stuff, but have upped the stakes and instead of just curating them as a bystander, they now actually help bring new things, mostly accessories, into the world.
Each week Of A Kind will pick a different emerging designer. That designer will be heavily promoted in content, but most importantly their designed item will be sold in the Of A Kind store that week.
In what’s a truly revolutionary move though, the weekly picked designer’s item production will be funded by Of A Kind. I believe it will bring even cooler and more experimental designers to light.
My one concern is the pricing. Of A Kind say the price range for items will stay within $50 to $500 realm. The item currently on sale, for example, is Mandy Coon’s Earie Bunny bag. Selling for $295. True, the bag is limited edition – only 30 exist. But still sounds too pricey to take a risk on who’s essentially an unknown designer. And indeed, only 6 have been sold so far and in a day a new item coming to be featured and steal the spotlight.
Pricing can be tweaked but the concept is solid. Of A Kind store will bring to light new talented designers and more cool stuff we can spend our money on.
