Mary Katrantzou Spring 2011 collection runway show
Mary Katrantzou’s Spring 2011 collection, shown during London Fashion Week last month, won her a wide array of rave reviews around the world. When Anna Dello Russo sits at your front row – you know you’re doing something right.
And indeed she does. Katrantzou’s Spring 2011 collection mainly consisted of simple cut trapeze mini dresses. But what really won her the appreciation were the trompe l’oleil prints. Each dress was an interior design marvel of it’s own. The prints had an incredible sense of depth to them. One dress had you looking inside a stunningly decorated villa, another took you outside to the poolside. And when the look didn’t include a print, it had a stiff lampshade skirt to continue the interior design motif.
Yes, the collection didn’t go unnoticed by critics and fashionistas everywhere. It’s certainly didn’t go unnoticed by the eight-member judging panel at the 2010 Swiss Textiles Awards, winning her $142,150 to launch an international career. Mary Katrantzou was presented with the award by last year’s winner Alexander Wang.
