Nordic:NY, Richie Rich, IVANAHelsinki
Yesterday I got a little sneak peek into the Nordic:NY Spring/Summer 2011 world and let me tell you, the Scandinavians are here to stay!
The Nordic:New York runway show, brainchild of The King Collective, brings Scandinavian aesthetics, fashion and designers to New York Fashion Week and hopefully to our stores as well. Tomorrow, Islaet, Tiia Vanhatapio and Royal Extreme will send their Spring/Summer 2011 collections down the Lincoln Center runway. Lialia will open the show juxtaposing the Nordic designers alongside a New York-based line.
Don’t let the new buzz fool you. Islaet, Tiia Vanhatapio, Royal Extreme and IVANAHelsinki (who will have her own runway show – closing Fashion Week this Thursday) are not newcomers. They have been designing for years in their home countries in Northen Europe. Vanhatapio and Paola Suhonen (of IVANAHelsinki), for example, have been designing since the late 90’s. So these designers are not messing around!
