Paul Rowland, the newly installed head of Ford’s women’s division, has big and exciting plans for the agency. And his vision for the agency is not exactly what Eileen Ford had in mind.

Ford is known as the agency for all things pretty, classic, clean cut and boring, but it’s all about to change. Says Rowland, “My vision is very different from Eileen Ford’s. My ideal legacy at Ford — and hopefully there will be one — would be to open up the idea of beauty not only being classic but being, you know, global. I’m just obsessed with finding these amazing creatures in all these exotic countries. I want to find girls in Egypt or Sri Lanka or India — all the places where people don’t look.”

To show he means business, besides adding the models Tao Okamoto, Rose Cordero, and Hanne Gaby Odiele to the roster, Rowland is also setting up a scouting office in North Africa. A blessed change I say.
